Nathan Heller, the “private eye to the stars”, has survived nineteen adventures in print and now ICU will bring Heller to the podcast format in the new, serialized audio drama series: TRUE NOIR.
Imagination Connsoisseurs Unlimited, LLC (ICU) announced it had officially entered pre-production of a new, serialized audio drama titled TRUE NOIR: The Nate Heller Casebooks. The first season of the serialized podcast is expected to go into production in early 2024 and be ready for release by mid-year.
The TRUE NOIR podcast will be derived from a nineteen-novel series of detective mysteries written by award-winning author Max Alan Collins (ROAD TO PERDITION, DICK TRACY). The books feature a former police detective, Nathan Heller, who solves mysteries and brings justice to criminals as he serves as the “private eye to the stars” during the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s.
“The TRUE NOIR Podcasts will use the same basic hook Max has used in his Nathan Heller novels,” explains ICU Chief Creative Officer, Robert Meyer Burnett. “Each of these novels wraps a fictional mystery around a real-life event and involves historical figures interacting with Heller as he tries to crack the case.”
“They’ve been fun books to research and write, and they’ve enjoyed a great following,” adds Mr. Collins. “But I’m looking forward to hearing how these mysteries play out in this format. The first season is set in the 1930s, which was the beginning of the heyday of the radio drama, so it should be a lot of fun.”
“We’re definitely planning on reliving the best that radio dramas had to offer,” said Mr. Burnett. “But we’re also going to add some richness and production quality from the 21st Century that just couldn’t be achieved nearly 100 years ago.”
The podcast series will be available on all major podcasting platforms on a subscription basis. A DVD/Blu-Ray that includes behind-the-scenes video, cast interviews, production notes and more will be added to the audio drama and available for purchase/advance order off the TRUE NOIR PODCASTS website when it launches in April, 2024.
